That 'lifetime' is actually 5 years. Apparently lifetime refers to that of the STB, since that is the tenure they lease it to you for.http://www.dishtv.in/special-digitization-offers.aspx
I think the pricing is still good. What would be more interesting is if Dish does manage to get a good number of people on board this way, and if they get incremental revenue from them through value added services. Currently only Tata Sky has been able to get good additional revenue through VAS
Looks like stock clearance sale from Dish. Probably they have too many STB, which they are not able to sell. The ad does not specify the type of STB, plain dumb box or DVR or HD......
it's just a way to pull people. They are actually pulling people in a wrong way. Many get to know the terms and condition after they subscribe to it. But, 13000 is huge for 5 years, esp. when you pay it at one time.
I agree Dish TV are not clear and transparent and hide a lot behind their *(T&C). Their offer 70 channels for free lifetime has monetary implications. They have the criteria that “the users will have to get their set top boxes recharged at least every six month with a minimum of Rs. 200”. The title ‘Dish TV to offer basic channels for free’ seems misleading as it clearly states under Dish TV’s offer to remain active one has to subscribe to a basic pack atleast twice a year. Infact, they haven’t taken any new move. DTH providers offer FTA channels provided subscribers are active by paying for the minimum base pack. FTA channels are meant to be free. A basic pack contains channels over and above FTA channels. It is just a marketing gimmick Dish TV is using to capitalize on the mandatory digitalization. A better title would be ‘Pay Rs. 200 twice a year and get 70 channels in Dish TV’. It is better not to choose a DTH provider that entices you with such phony offers. Later impose to be a headache to switch operators. It is advisable to do a thorough study of the channels being offered, package rate, customer service of a DTH provider in order to make an informed decision. Most people will just see through this and will not be fooled.
