Xiaomi announces the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus with 18:9 screens

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 has a 5.7" screen with 18:9 ratio and HD+ resolution. The chipset is Snapdragon 450, built on the 14 nm process technology. It features an octa-core CPU, clocked at 1.8 GHz.
The memory versions are 2 GB RAM with 16 GB storage or 3 GB RAM with 32 GB storage. There is also microSD on board that holds up to 128 GB more.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is a bit more powerful than the regular version but shares the same appearance. The front panel is mostly occupied by the FullView panel that is 5.99" in diagonal. Being a Plus version, this phone comes with Full HD+ resolution. The chipset is also a bit more powerful, sporting the Snapdragon 625.
Memory combo is also a bit mightier - there is either a 3 GB/32 GB or 4 GB/64 GB. Another bonus that Plus owners will get over the regular-sized Redmi 5 is the battery - it has 4,000 mAh capacity. User interface and camera setups are the same, including the fingerprint position.

The Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch, 1440x720 pixel IPS LCD with 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 with a choice of 2GB or 3GB of RAM with 16GB or 32GB storage, respectively. The phone has a 12MP camera on the back with f2.2 aperture and PDAF and a 5MP camera on the front with Beautify 3.0 software. Lastly, there's a 3300mAh battery with standard 10W charging.

The Redmi 5 runs on MIUI 9 on top of Android 7.1 Nougat.

The phone will go on sale on March 20, 12:00 IST for INR 7999 ($123) for the 2/16GB model and INR 8,999 ($138) for the 3/32GB model.
