Core 2 duo processor with 3GB ram. Will 8.1 support this? Is it worth updating from windows 7? Usage is browsing web and watching movies along with few games.

Windows 8 consumes fewer resources than Windows 7.

Same system here. Works just fine.

Any app compatability problems? Like photoshop not working on it or opera not supporting sort of?

Nope. Have Photoshop and Opera both installed. No issues.
Any software that works fine on Windows 7 will give no issues on 8.1.

Would depend upon the version. I mean I would not imagine that all versions of Photoshop would work fine on Windows 8. But nothing much should change between Windows 7 and 8.

my image associations were messed up. started opening in the windows photo viewer. not cool.

I got a call from a relative whose neighbour bought a new windows 8 laptop & needed help in reverting the setup to show in windows photo viewer by default as the new thing was confusing 😀

of course giving them picasa is a good idea too. it helps them manage their photos. import photos. mailing photos. and if they get the idea of cloud storage, it also lets them backup their photos online.

first thing i removed was the unpin that piece of shit.

i cannot use windows metro apps because they amplify the dark spots on my display.

Amplify, how exactly ?
