Just a discussion thread for what actual speeds people are getting on the router provided by their LCO on 2.4 GHz band at both 20 MHz and 40 MHz channel widths w.r.t the rated max link speed we get in our devices. People with 3rd party routers are welcome to participate as well but only w.r.t 2.4 GHz band.

Important things to be mentioned if you are mentioning any sort of speedtest:
1 Your promised plan speed
2 Your WiFi link speed on 2.4 GHz band on both 20 MHz and 40 MHz channel width
3 Speedtests on 2.4 GHz band on both 20 MHz and 40 MHz channel width

Thank you.

I get around 55 mbps both upload & download at 2.4 GHz, 40 MHz channel through the router provided by LCO, when testing within the same room. My plan is Superstar 300

Idk if this is BSNL specific test but WiFi speeds should apply to everyone. I'm using TP-Link EAP245 access point on channel 1 with 40Mhz on 2.4Ghz. Link speed is 300Mbps.

Same server on 5Ghz, Link speed 866.7Mbps

On Wire, Gigabit ofc:

All tests are done on my laptop with Intel WiFi 6 AX201 wifi card. Though router only supports 5Ghz.

@CHOPSHOT yes sure . So actually i have ordered dual band router , but i am now worried that if link speed is only dependent on device/mobile etc or router or both .
Will the link speed increase if i get better router. I hope so that it will , still not sure

@CHOPSHOT and giving an example , iPhone 7plus is like launched in 2016-17 , while as Redmi note 7 pro is like 2019 launch , still on iphone i am getting 144-150Mbps link while as max. Of 72 on Redmi . I even tested on ipad 10.1 (7gen) , its average device still it can also go upto 150 Mbps link.

@Tenet It'll be fine with the new router because right now your Redmi is only latching to 2.4 GHz band but your new router is dual band so once your redmi connects to 5GHz band it'll not be a problem.

@CHOPSHOT and by changing to 40 Mhz vs 20Mhz , changed nothing for me . Neither speed not link speed. Not sure what devices others are using to get high link speed , i have like mi devices , so it will worthless if i am not able to utilise full speeds.

The reason why Redmi link speed is 72mbps because of the channel width limitation.. It supports only 20mhz channel width . If any mobile supports 40mhz channel width on 2.4ghz then link speed will be 150mbps.. And also link speed is dependent absolutely on mobile because most routers support higher channel width and have a dual band.

Btw @Tenet Can you tell me what link speeds you see on 40 MHz channel widths?

Ignore, i can see you already answered that.

Btw when i changed channel widths, my mobiles stayed the same but the link speed of wifi increased, did it stay the same for your wifi as well?
