We say all day that our politicians are nothing but old septuagenarians who don't even have anything to live for. Forget about DYING for principles, these politicians will die anyway, with or without ideals. :pSo lets know your ambition. Are you one of those who mouths the above, and then goes to bed for a peaceful sleep at night, or are you an active participant in raising the quality of governance in you country?

Interesting to see someone talking abt Politics!!

I enjoy keeping a track of whats happening arnd: Globally, Nationally, Regionally and Locally. I strongly feel that its vital for each citizen to look into governance and be a part of the system rather than being an onlooker and jus talk big!

We as a group of citizens in our neighbourhood started with a Newsletter a decade ago. Its called VOW(details in the link below). We now have become an interaction platform and moreover an interface between the residents and the authorities by not jus pouncing on them but actually working hand in hand with the authorities for better Governance.

Some of u might have also heard abt AGNI (http://www.agnimumbai.org).
AGNI and VOW work together for a common cause!

more abt this laters!

There should be one more option. I follow politics but I don't want to be one.

Its not neccessry to join politics to serve the nation (and yourself).
You can be a civic activist or social worker in your own geographic area too.
Small steps by many will generate vast changes/improvements.

You may find something that interests or motivates you.
Also read history and learn from past mistakes of the high and mighty.

Here is what a 'great man' once said ...

Lord McCauley in his speech of Feb 2,1835 in the British Parliament said:
"I have traveled across the length and breadth of India and I have not
seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in
this country, such high moral values, people of such caliber, that I do not
think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone
of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and, therefore,
I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her
culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is
good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem,their
native self-culture and they will become what we want them, a truly
dominated nation".
This is what the English set out to do and we helped them achieve it.
This is what we have been doing for the past fifty years too.
Maybe we have begun to come out of it since the last ten years.

excellent thread.

I am in Tamil Nadu.
I found the ruling party has many young lawyers
in their membership. Even the ministers too young. But the
percentage of well educated youngsters entering
politics is very low.

Unless one takes part in political system, social service,
cannot be done to the full extent.
