Why is Nokia not selling Android phones?

Yeah thats true that they have deal with microsoft n creating windows phones which are somehow successful at their own level....... but there are few more gaints like samsung n htc who r producing both wp as well as android in past n now as well may be future too....but Nokia has never done like this.....so wheres the problem..........
 
Here is the longer answer.
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop joined Nokia from Microsoft. He is close to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. A lot of us believe that his primary job at Nokia was to get the company close to Microsoft. And he did exactly that. Dumped MeeGo and partnered with Microsoft for Windows Phone exclusivity for the near future.
I am not sure if the deal is official. Reports say that it would last for a few more years (2015 or 2016). Microsoft gave Nokia a lot of benefits as part of the deal. Financial help to the tune of 1 billion dollars over a period of several years and so on.
Things do not end here. Microsoft and Nokia have collaborated on their patents and they are leased out to competing companies for a price. This also ensures that Nokia would find it quite hard to detach itself from Microsoft.
Ballmer has said several times that they have not given up on the idea of launching devices based on competing platforms like Android but it is just talk. Nokia is unlikely to launch Android based devices as long as he is the CEO of the company. So basically, Nokia board would have to decide whether they have had enough of Elop’s nonsense which is killing the company and start fresh with Android or Tizen or Firefox OS or Ubuntu Touch or whatever.
 
I don't see any reason why Nokia should launch Android device. If they are getting success with WP, they can stick to WP and try to develop it in par with other leading OS like Android or iOS. Finally we customer would decide which OS we want to use. If Nokia is not producing Android, lets go to Samsung (or Sony/HTC/LG) 🙂
But apart from WP, Nokia should also develop some in-house OS like it had Symbian earlier. Their current S40 is also good stable OS, but it doesn't really qualifies for Smartphone OS due to lack of Multitasking feature.

That's a very poor answer. Corporate do not work this way. This is just a speculation of bunch of tech journalist's who do not give shit about actual core development of software, management, corporate culture etc etc. Funny enough, all this bullshit is based on one single fact- Stephen Elop is ex-MS employee.
 
Yeah. Corporate culture totally explains why Nokia dumped a fully functional OS when it was all set to launch and even got rave reviews from almost all outlets.
 
Would like to point out here that Nokia stopped selling CDMA feature phones because they did not like paying royalties to Qualcomm. But they are now more than happy to pay royalties to Microsoft for Windows Phone devices. They would have sold millions of phones in markets like India if they had continued selling high quality low price CDMA feature phones.
 
Hopefully Jolla would get the backing it deserves. Sadly, all the big players have committed to one or the other mobile platform and are unlikely to adopt their platform in the near future.

MeeGo was an OS. Who will emerge ecosystem out of it? Google had Android, MS had windows phone, Apple had iOS which despite having backed by non service company, had support of Google and third party community due to huge market share.

You need to have money plus either market share or already evolved ecosystem on other form factors in order to deploy it on mobiles. Nokia had nothing with MeeGo.
 
Jolla should pick up Yahoo, or Yahoo should pickup Jolla, so they would have what Google, Apple, MS has- online platform 🙂
Then they can reach few OEM vendors to put OS on some handsets.
