Recently I have become a little disenchanted with our news channels because of the way they run after TRPs and such. And here are two (of many reasons) why that strategy sucks:

#1) TRPs make Ekta Kapoor exist and rubbed in our faces everyday.
#2) It makes news networks more and more sensational by giving us what we want to hear and see and not what we need to hear and see. For example, in the vast majority of states in the US, if you turn on the news, you are more likely to hear about a 6-year old girl scoring perfect in some junior school spelling bee than about thousands dying in Africa.
