Alliance Broadband 3 Mbps Unlimited (No FUP)
BSNL started broadband about 3 years ago with 256kbps speed, and still now the subscribers of unlimited plans are cursed with that 256kbps speed limit. Other plans have been upgraded with a 'upto' 2mbps bandwidth, but with LARGE pinch of salt, we have to pay Rs.800 per hour of full speed usage (after the free bandwidth limit of 1GB or 2.5 GB exhausts). As compared to 2mbps line, browsing with 256kbps line feels like a dialup connection (2mbps is 8 times faster than 256kbps, and dialup is 'only' 5 times slower than 256kbps !!). I have a feeling that the speed limit of the unlimited plans will not be upgraded soon by BSNL. Actually, the unlimited 256kbps bundled with zero voice rental and Re.1 /pulse is borrowed from the simiar plan by Airtel, and so long as BSNL is not threatened by better plans from other players, we are stuck with 256. Some home500 users may argue that their plan is much better under the present situation, but I beg to differ. Keeping the computer running all night for extracting bandwidth from BSNL is not healthy for the computer. Just think about the extra electricity you are burning all over the country. Moreover, most of us have power hungry Graphix card which draw power like hell even if only downloading is done. So, when can we see light at the end of the tunnel??

ah, another frustrated UL subscriber 🙂 you didnt vote in your own poll (if possible) dude!anyways, here's the deal: india is known all over the world as one of the most backward countries on the planet. we simply cannot afford to lose this distinguished honour. so, today, when the rest of the world enjoys 10+ mbps speeds in the home, we are at 256 kbps. tomorrow, when the world will be at 1 gbps, maybe we will reach 10 mbps. dont be fooled by the announcements by BSNL of 100/500 mbps connections, those are just crooked minds who do not appreciate the beauty of being the laughing stock of the rest of the world at 256 kbps upto 2mbps.
