Volkswagen is one of the biggest automaker in the world and is now considering starting its car manufacturing operations in India. They already have a presence in India through their subsidiary Skoda that is doing rather well and they have recently launched their Audi luxury cars in India.

The company is due to hold a vendor’s meeting for the proposed Visakhapatnam manufacturing plant in Hyderabad later this week. This is one of the only first meetings by the German auto giant with more planned with companies in Gurgaon and other cities.

VW is being led by a ten-member delegation, including Volkswagen’s India project head Helmuth Schuster. They are due to arrive in India today and will be visiting the project location in Visakhapatnam. Later they would be arriving in Hyderabad for the proposed meet with the vendors. The trip would also include visits to other places of interests for the company.

German auto giant Volkswagen has already announced the plans to open up a manufacturing plant in the Indian city of Visakhapatnam. They have already have a solid presence in the Indian market through Audi and Skoda. The latest news in is that the company is now planning to start manufacturing a small car for the Indian market sometime next year.

The company has reportedly already made concrete orders for the production of the said model rumored to be based on Volkswagen Fox which is currently being made in the Brazilian market. The company sources in India have refused to comment on the speculation. However, they have confirmed that the company chief executive Bernd Pischetsrieder is due to decide on the plans to manufacture a model in India soon.

It is bad news for Indian automobile industry as one of the biggest auto companies of Europe has reportedly delayed their entry into the Indian market. Volkswagen has delayed the decisions of building a new factory in India in the wake of a bribery scandal at the German carmaker. VW boss Bernd Pischetsrieder has now put on hold the plans on their Indian operations.

German auto giant Volkswagen seems to be back on its mission to setup its manufacturing base in the Indian market after receiving some jolts earlier this year. The Volkswagen-AG India Car project now seems to be rolling back on the road. Just last week, a four-member team of Volkswagen legal experts led by their project leader Peter Walters visited the Mambattu village near Tada in Nellore district in the southeastern tip of Andhra Pradesh.
