Videocon, the consumer durables major, which is making a pitch for direct-to-home (DTH) television market through its media arm Bharat Business Channel, has homed in on Israeli technology firm Gilat Satellite Networks for its foray. Gilat's super encryption technology swung things in its favour.

The idea is to have a DTH project at a cheaper cost than what has been touted till now by Tata Sky and the Subhash Chandra-controlled Dish TV, the two private sector DTH service providers in the country.

The Videocon Group has announced its plans to launch its DTH platform by October-end. Videocon claims it will invest Rs 1000 Crores in the venture over 2 years. The platform has been named "D2H" and will be launched by Videocon group company Bharat Business Channel Ltd.
6 Ku Band transponders have already been booked through SingTel. The company will use MPEG-4 compression and plans to deliver 200 channels from its 6 transponders. The MPEG-4 STBs will be manufactured by Videocon, from its Aurangabad plant. Irdeto will provide the encryption technology.
D2H is being headed by Anil Khera who was earlier in charge of Videocon's Sansui and Kelvinator brands. "We have taken six Ku-band transponders on SingTel's ST-1 satellite. We are investing Rs 10 billion over two years and are launching the DTH service by October-end," Khera is reported to have told the press.
Khera also confirmed that the service will be uplinked from Greater Noida.

Satellite is ready for them.But they will take more time beyond september.
 

Diwali would be a good time for them..I also think they might want to wait till early next year, to see how Big TV doing..
 
both airtel and videocon will be launching their services in October, once its done it will be boom time for us consumers, as we will have plenty of options and choice to choose from 😗
 
i am waiting form a long period for this crash(price crash) as i am living in a rural area of punjab and cable service is very poor in our village.so lets wait and watch🙂
