very peculiar problem with v-fiber and edgerouter x

i have the airtel router placed on ground floor from where i have an ethernet cable coming to the basement where edgerouter is placed.

this cable connected directly to my pc gives me proper download speeds of around 40mbps. but upload speeds are shite at 0.2mbps.

the same cable when connected to edgerouter x... speeds on my pc... are basically reversed. downloads are .4mbps but uploads are fine at 8-9mbps.

i even ended up installing ddwrt on the edgerouter trying to fix this issue. but exactly the same behavior.

ethernet cable is not old. and connectors seem to be fine.

i am thinking of replacing the connectors. i personally suck at it so would have to find someone.
replacing ethernet cable so soon seems kind of pointless. might get airtel wiring switched to basement instead.

Just to rule out the cable, how about taking the edge router to the ground floor temporarily and try with a different shorter ethernet cable?

Was this working before or is this something new being setup?

I think its a cable problem, re-terminate the connectors or as @varkey suggested use a new shorter ethernet cable.

You will be surprised how much RF interference ethernet cables experience especially over long runs >10 meters and unshielded when they act like RF antennas. I assume the cable is routed internally i.e. within the house and no runs are exposed to the environment or near a window. When I had my home wired with D-Link Cat 6 in 2011 I made sure the run was internal to minimise transmission problems and installed in plastic conduit/casing. Works like a charm even 9 years later.

If you experience better performance with a shorter cable just change the cable with DLink, Finolex or other good brand CAT6 or 7. Amazon has unterminated bulk cables on offer plus long pre-terminated "patch" cables of 10+ meters Amazon Basics 15 mt. CAT6

I do not suspect the cable to be an issue given the symptoms you are experiencing, but the proper installation of connectors are basic requirements.

1. I think you are running dual NAT, airtel modem seems to be in router mode, it's best to keep it in bridge mode and then let the ER-X route.
2. Are you running any traffic shaper on the ER-X ?

I love ER-X, and have plenty of clients on the same, EdgeOS works fantastically, never found the need to run ddwrt.

hmm. i do not have any ethernet device at the moment to check edgerouter on groundfloor with shorter wiring.
i suck at installing rj45 so replacing them is kind of complicated. i have tried getting airtel guy to come but he is quite busy this week.
i have considered switching airtel router to bridge mode but i kind of want it's wifi to remain enabled.
er-x has fresh install of openwrt (not ddwrt ) and simple configuration. it is configured on failover.
wire is around 25 meters and most of it is outside my house in sunlight. but it is covered with those plastic strips. it is fairly new so it should not be damaged.

i am now considering getting airtel to the basement. and once the speeds through router are good. drag ethernet cable from basement to the room where i need it for cctv connectivity. using Amazon cable instead of D-Link one.

would have to drag a rj11 cable as well because landline is needed on groundfloor and not basement.

what mess.

can anyone tell me if it is possible to run a shitty cctv box with a wireless dongle? this whole issue is because of the cctv box. otherwise entire house has good wifi coverage with two wireless routers on groundfloor both connected with ethernet cable from basement. and these cables are installed on the same route exposed outside the house and are much older than the airtel cable which is giving me the problem. and i did not even get a cheap cable. got the shielded one that costed around 20 bucks per meter iirc.

I would highly recommend getting EZ Connector for RJ-45 , it makes crimping much easier, I haven't had a single failed crimp because of it. This is the particular one I purchased.

nope, you can just use scissors to cut off excess and pull the cable out a few millmeters so that there is no excess wire outside the connector
