Hi All,

As per the subject, I am unable to make vowifi calls on both Airtel and Jio Network via my home Jiofiber connection. Jio CC not providing me with DNS IP's. Tried using cloudfare and google DNS, but unable to make it work. Also enabled IPSec Passthrough in Router settings.

TIA

Solution
Hi Guys, Finally managed to get vowifi working over Jiofiber. A big thankyou @gvkr for the detailed analysis with patient timely responses. FYI have a JCOW401 black Jio router.

1. Route version ARCTF1_JCOW401_R1.24 (updated recently)
2. Got this working over cloudfare IPv4 DNS with Primary DNS Server: 1.1.1.1 and Secondary DNS Server: 1.0.0.1
3. Added it through the WAN IPv4 settings under search

This time it miraculously worked (had set the same Cloudfare DNS earlier on R1.16 firmware)

Please mark this thread as resolved.
You can't use JioCall using custom DNS.

Just reset, factory default Jio router. It will remove any setting which you have done. Domain Name is blank in Jio router but if we changed DNS, it will not allow reverting back as it does not allow blank domain name and that is an issue. So need to do factory default.

I'm not talking about Jiocall, but voice calls made over wifi. Did router reset, however still not getting wifi calling icon on my mobile

I am successful in making wifi calls on other hotspots, even my jiofi dongle if that helps. Some issue with jiofiber setup. CC are clueless and dont even try to understand the issue.

I'm facing the same issue. The airtel vowifi symbol doesn't show when using my home jio fiber connection. Tech support from both jio and airtel haven't been able to help.

This problem started when I shifted houses and stared using the new dark blue jio router. Didn't face this with the earlier white jio router. So I assume this is an issue with the router settings. I've tried everything you have, but cant seem to get a handle on this. Do let me know if you figure something out, and I'll do the same.

Can you guys what IPs are these domains vowifi.jio.com and epdg.epc.mnc861.mcc405.pub.3gppnetwork.org resolving to in both the setups.

In windows you can do nslookup vowifi.jio.com. Or via Android App he.net - Network Tools - Apps on Google Play and under DNS section.

For wifi calling to work, they should ideally resolve to 49.44.59.38 or 49.44.59.36, if not try experimenting by changing DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 or any other internal jio dns servers

Seems they broke something in the firmware. I had firmware from aug 2020 where the wifi calling used to work and in the dec 2020 version it doesn't work. Also IKeV connections while using vpns also seem to fail leading me to believe that IPSec is broken

Tried nslookup both URL's,
epdg.epc.mnc861.mcc405.pub.3gppnetwork.org:- DNS request timed out
vowifi.jio.com: - *** UnKnown can't find vowifi.jio.com: No response from server.

Already tried Cloudfare and Google DNS settings on router/phone. No cigar 🙁

So what options do we have?

1. Get a router and link it to JCOW401
2. Rollback to June firmware (that is if we can grab it)
3. Change the ONT? Possibly???
4. Any other suggested hack to get this working?

I reached out to @jiosupport on twitter and they asked me the router settings with DNS SS and if Port 500 and 4500 are enabled. idk if ONT supports port opening.

Hi,
We need to single out the issue, is it with router/ is it with connection itself.

can you try below mentioned commands in your setup by changing a.b.c.d in commands to following ip's
IP's:
1.1.1.1
1.0.0.1

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

2606:4700:4700::1111
2606:4700:4700::1001

2001:4860:4860::8888
2001:4860:4860::8844

Commands:
ping a.b.c.d
nslookup epdg.epc.mnc861.mcc405.pub.3gppnetwork.org a.b.c.d
nslookup vowifi.jio.com a.b.c.d

Get the DNS in the WAN connection of your router let that ip be w.x.y.z.
ping w.x.y.z
nslookup epdg.epc.mnc861.mcc405.pub.3gppnetwork.org w.x.y.z
nslookup vowifi.jio.com w.x.y.z

Post the above results so that they might help in diagnosing the issue.

Also, try installing cloudflare warp in windows/android and see if the nslookup commands of vowifi.jio.com and other works fine.

Hi,

From the above logs DNS of 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 are working from your end. So I believe network wise everything looks decent.
There are probably 2 problems.
1. DNS of wifi calling are not resolving. By changing DNS in the router, we have to ensure that "vowifi.jio.com" is getting resolved correctly. [After changing DNS please cross confirm at What's My DNS Server? ]
2. Vowifi uses IPSec tunnel [isakmp - udp 500 and udp 4500 - ESP]. Someone earlier pointed that IPSec has issues in this firmware. We need single out if this indeed is the issue. Can try connect Cloudflar of any Indian VPN and test this out
