Unable to connect to internet through USB tehthering

I am unable to connect to the internet through USB tethering on my Galaxy S Advance I9070. When I enable tethering on my device nothing happens, isn't it supposed to automatically connect, if I have internet enabled on my cell. I searched on some blogs, but this is all they say. I was wondering if I need Samusng Kies to do the trick!

Which os you are using on your PC/laptop?

Windows 7 Ultimate

Are you trying to tether via wifi? I have no issues doing that with my GN2. Can tether to phone/tablet/laptop.

Before connecting make sure you PC/laptop's wifi and Bluetooth is turned off...

Done. Installed Samsung kies and it works fine
