You can protect ur data from being sniffed by using static entries instead of dynamic and disabling all incoming arp traffic from all ip's except ur gateway by using some good firewall ..
arp -s xx.xx.xx.xx 00-00-00-00-00-00
xx=gateway ip 00= gateway mac
Its not that easy to sniff ur stuff directly as sify people uses switch instead of hubs ( atleast at my place) . And
majority of the times all people in your LAN are, well ..., not so enlightened.[/b]
