Hi Friends

For past one year I'm having too low download speed. The torrent download never crossed 150-160 kBps and the upload 30-40 kBps. Several times I have complained to BSNL officers and their 3rd party agents, but of no result. They say its upto 2MBPS and minimum 512 kBps, hence we can not do anything. But I was getting 230-245kBps one year before in a different part of the same city and my other friends in other parts of the same city also getting decent 200+ kBps download speed. Also I have noticed may members here are getting 200+ kBps download speed.

What should I do now ?
Please help.

@Utkal - You cannot fairly judge your connection speed based on your torrents speed as torrent speed is subject to other variables also. It is possible that you are not getting the specified speed but you cannot use the torrent speed as proof of that. My suggestion is that you should first test your speed at speedtest.net and post your result here. If BSNL have a speedtest link then you can use that as well.

I know what your saying and agree with you that torrent speed is not the ultimate determination of speed as it depends upon other factors. But then normal browser download should give me the actual download rate ?

I do not believe speedtest.net or BSNL speed test as they show much higher number but actually I do not get that speed even if through normal browser download. Do you believe, when I was not able to open (for 5days) even google.com/redif.com/gmail/hotmail few days back, the speedtest.net and BSNL speed test were showing 1.5 to 1.9 mbps speed ???

Even if I have torrents with 5,000 seeders, the download speed still under 150 kBps ? What speed you will get with 5,000 seeders ? Atleast I was getting 230-245 kBps one year back at a different exchange in Pune with same plan.

How is the movie March of the Dinosaurs btw 🙂

I have not seen it yet 🙂

After making complaints at couple of BSNL related sites, I have got several calls from BSNL Pune including Dept of Telecom, Govt Of India, New Delhi 🙂 Seems now they are working on it. Only crying baby gets milk.

But still they are giving the excuse as per your plan you are getting the speed, I mean minimum 512 kbps to 2 mbps. When I said others are getting 200+ kBps download speed (also I was getting 230+ kBps at other location in Pune) and I'm only max 150 kBps they do not have any answer. Lets see what they will do. Now I do not have much hope on them and seems I have to live with this.

They test the bandwidth with speedtest.net and it gives 1.5 to 1.6 mbps result, but the downloads are too slow even if with good servers. So the problem is high bandwidth but low download speed.

don't count what speed torrent givesstart normal direct download linkif it gives u desired speed u have no problemsalso check your SNR signal it must not be at 6-7db.

Nothing new in your post. I have tried everything and there is no result. These SNR and other parameters are perfectly fine. But for me I think its the number of nodes per server in our locality is the problem. And these f***** BSNL officials are not willing to upgrade the infrastructure but going on adding more and more users. They are not maintaining the ratio at all.

you should try IDM(internet download manager). This software splits the downloading file and then downloads it.so it should give ya 220+.For torrents try port starting from 4****.
Make it open DNS.

These things will help ya to Boost it

if this don work Visit switch room of your area and ask them to change the port.

i get around 225+ with all this

----------

IDM can be downloaded from PhazeDDL Warez Downloads.
u will get a full version may be with some viruses keygen will be included.Try with a good security software

1. I always use (for http downloads) DownThemAll DM in FF which is BAAP of all
2. my uTorrent ports are always more than 40000
3. I always use OpenDNS rather than BSNL's dynamic/automatic DNS
4. Already changed the port

I appreciate your comments, but if the infrastructure is POOR nothing will work. And these craps are not willing to improve the infrastructure. Their argument is you are getting minimum 512 kbps and the upper limit is UPTO 2mbps, so keep your mouth shut. This is BSNL, Pune.
