I believe Sony has won the rights to broadcast the Olympics in india. I hope they do it in 4k. In the US, and other countries it will be broadcast in
4k. In Japan, it will be broadcast in 8k. I hope Sony does not short change Indians in this aspect.

Indians pay far little than what those countries you mentioned pay broadcasters. If they wanted to short change us, they'd only provide it in SD 480p. If they provide 1080p, consider that commendable.

I believe Tata Sky DTH is in talks to try and broadcast in 4K but it'll be more of a trial/loss making endeavour than a commercial reality.

Tata Sky had broadcasted some sports events like Cricket World cup final in 4K. I guess they should be doing it for Olympics as well if broadcaster provides feed.
TataSky recently launched 4K service on Binge.

I have been watching Tokyo Olympics on Sony liv (on firestick 4k) and quality is very good. Definitely better than HD. Can any of the experts
run some stats to check if the feed is 4k?
