yeah they are doing it with some movies. not sure exact details but some awards require the movie to get a theater release iirc. plus i suppose they are realizing that extra money does not really hurt. this movie however, i doubt would win any awards.
netflix is basically jealous that Apple won their oscars already through coda. it was also released in theaters.
The main issue with Netflix's theatrical window is the duration. Netflix doesn't give them more than 7-10 days at max before putting it up for streaming. The only recent movie with a longer window that I can remember was The Power of the Dog. Netflix released it on November 11, 2021 in Australia and New Zealand, on November 17 in US and UK before putting it online on December 1.
However, that may change with Knives 2 for which Netflix is willing to take the traditional route of a 45 day window between releases.
