TataSky+ HD Fan not working.... some queries

Hi guys... got my new Tata Sky+ HD...today. Some queries:The fan behind is not working.... is that normal for fan to start automatically when actually needed? Never seen it on till now and the box is not hot.Should I configure 720p or 1080i for better pic quality in HD channels?

Obviously 1080i if your tv can handle it.

Enlightening information, but the Star Gold logo looks much better on 1080i than 720p on my tv.
