After investing around Rs 3,000 crore since its inception in August 2006 and clocking a 20 per cent market share in the DTH space, Tata Sky Ltd plans to pump in more funds and launch new programmes to expand its reach across India, where the DTH customer base is projected to double to four crore by 2012.

Currently, Tata Sky has a customer base of 45 lakh, out of two crore DTH subscribers in the country, said Mr Vikram Mehra, Chief Marketing Officer.

Indian households currently have 13 crore TV sets which are increasingly moving towards the DTH service providers with huge business potential.

However, he declined to specify the investments being planned at this stage, saying it would be “adequate” to target the objectives. About Tata Sky Plus, launched last year, he said that it was already attracting at least 10 per cent of monthly revenue with its added features.

After launching Tata Sky's latest offering, Active English, in Gujarat, for teaching English via Hindi to housewives and others, he told Business Line that a team of 70 professionals are developing 11 new interactive programmes.

Started in Chandigarh on December 18, 2009, in a tie-up with the British Council, Active English has already attracted 12,000 new customers in the last two weeks.

As part of its expansion strategy, Tata Sky is set to teach English through other regional languages as well. The Hindu Business Line : Tata Sky plans new investments, programmes for expansion
