Tata Sky Ltd, a joint venture from the TATA group and STAR, has announced a reduction in their monthly subscription rates.

As part of this initiative some premium channels have now been made available on an optional basis rather than being forced upon every subscriber, a company release here said.

The rationale behind the new packaging strategy is to provide subscribers and not anyone else with the power to decide which channels to pay for and for what period.

While subscribers have the option to reduce their monthly subscription charges, Tata Sky has ensured that if the subscribers wish to continue watching all the channels they were watching earlier, their total payouts do not increase.

Till May 31, 2008 the Annual subscriber pay out was Rs 3,600 and with the new annual subscriber payment, the customer has to pay only Rs 2,600 (if they do not want to opt for any premium Sports pack or BBC pack), the release said.

Tata Sky offers subscribers 150 channels and interactive services in DVD quality picture and CD quality sound.
