Hi all,
Don't know if its already posted here, but while browsing on the net came across this blog Orange Hues: A Conspiracy Called Tata Sky . After seeing/reading this it seems it would be good to read a bit on some electronics, wave modulation etc, and go buy 2-3 KU-band dishes, wire the house & just turn the dish to enjoy channels from all over the world.
In the golden days when people were just waking up to the channel there was so much experimental, I know my local oprerator use to tune to all & any sundry channel in the air just to get a glimpse of what else is in the air. Sometimes mature content too but that's besides the point. Now with Hathway being my provider they have their 100-150 odd channels but without that freedom or experimentation which was there before. So no more mexican, italian movies or things like where one couldn't understand the language but still use to enjoy or sometimes if lucky with sub-titles.

:O:O didnt know that. TOO BAD🙁

Umm, that used to be true in the good old days, once they built up a base they could charge, all the "interesting" ones went encrypted so unless you want to spring for that, or have the required hacking skills, i'd say it would be a waste.

You're better off just pulling shows off the net instead.

HI everyone. I also read this orange hues. I also have Tata Sky. Actually i have 2 C band dishes with 3 digital receivers. I also have 3 ku band dishes with a tata sky along with it. What it says is right. you can have many channels that are beamed from other channels. There are certain problems in that. a) You cannot get the preferred language. since there are many foreign channel which is not with DTH like TATA sky or DishTV.https://broadband.forum/images/smilies/redface.gif  b) When ever you see a good channel and if it is interesting it will be converted to Pay channels in a few months.https://broadband.forum/images/smilies/mad.gif 😡 c) Again when you see some good channels it will be moved to some other sat in a very few months.https://broadband.forum/images/smilies/confused.gif 😕 d) for one channel you may not be in a position to turn ur dish or you need to invest on a new dish.https://broadband.forum/images/smilies/wallbash.gif :wall: e) Now i have nearly 4 dishes accumulated in my house because of these problems https://broadband.forum/images/smilies/mad2.gif :madness: f) Once i bought TATA sky i was out of these problems though there terms and conditions are tough.https://broadband.forum/images/smilies/redface.gif  g) Instead of investing so much money on individual dishes and downloading many channels it is better to invest on TATA sky. https://broadband.forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

to invest on a new dish.https://broadband.forum/images/smilies/wallbash.gif

e) Now i have nearly 4 dishes accumulated in my house because of these problems https://broadband.forum/images/smilies/mad2.gif

sure, as long as those 'nice' channels aren't encrypted in which case i would recommend u to have a good LCD monitor & 512 Kbps connection & joost. Same thing achieved without any technical know-how 🙂

joost is being made available widely now. if only we had faster net connections. with unlimited data transfer.

I am trying to run joost for last 8-9 days and it keeps showing error... btw many ppl in the joost forum r facing the same prob... Anyone here facing any prob with joost... ?

i get this:

i mailed the customer support. got no response.

brian of datafox has confirmed that joost works at his place.

i remember reading somewhere that joost does depend upon people in your locality on the same ISP/Network to get better connectivity considering it's a p2p based service. maybe the problem is due to lack of other people in the same region who are not using Joost? 😛 things could get better when the release is made public and more people start using it.

joost is also based on the UDP protocol i think. i am not sure how to check if UDP is not blocked by airtel at my end.

Yeah I get the exact error.... I even tried port forwarding of 33333,5223 and 443 ... But no use... In their FAQ they have written tht UDP is needed to fetch videos but client will be able to connect and start as it depends on TCP... And we here r not even able to connect....

i guess we can only hope that the public release later this month would work on our airtel connection... now the question is that whether just the airtel people are facing this issue or not. 😀

I am in Calcutta now with a BSNL connection, Joost connects alright, but even with an upto 2 mbps speed, it still pauses to buffer.

cool... i still would need someone using airtel to confirm... brian is also on bsnl...
