Tata Tele rolls out superfast broadband!
Internet users looking for a high-speed broadband connection have an option now.

Tata Teleservices Maharashtra (TTML) has launched the country's first high-end, ultra-fast broadband, with speeds up to 200 times that of a standard broadband connection.

With this, TTML has become the first operator to introduce the more advanced wide area ethernet technology in place of the more common digital subscriber line (DSL) based technology for broadband.

DSL and its variants, currently in use by nearly all the telecom operators for broadband, support a maximum speed of 8 megabits per second (Mbps).

The TTML service, in contrast, will offer speeds such as 100 Mbps. No internet-based service uses such high speeds as on date.

Services like video-sharing portals use only around 0.4 Mbps for the standard version and around 1 Mbps for high quality video-streaming.

Very high quality video services, such as high definition video on demand, use about 4 Mbps to 10 Mbps. Though such services have been launched on DSL-based technologies, such as by MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai, success has been mixed as they work only within 2 km of the telephone exchange.

TTML's fibre ethernet-based technology is expected to give it an upper hand, though at Rs 10,500 per month, the price tag is a hefty one.

TTML said it has already connected around 20,000 buildings in Mumbai with wide area ethernet technology and plans to leverage the network to launch high-speed products such as interactive TV and life-like video-calling for consumers.

\"It is a somewhat niche product,\" Mukund Rajan, managing director of TTML and board member of Tata Teleservices (TTSL), said. \"We are working on a host of intra-city services and will make announcements very soon.\"

The 1,500 km long fibre network covers all the major areas of Mumbai, but is yet to be available universally in the city. \"We are expanding it beyond the 20,000 buildings connected so far,\" said Rajan.

The company will roll out similar services in other markets at a later stage, he added.

On Wednesday, TTML also launched a 3G-based wireless broadband service in Mumbai. The service had earlier been launched in Bangalore and Chennai.

“The Tatas have invested over Rs 1,750 crore in creating a world-class digital communications infrastructure in Mumbai over the past decade. We have a vision for digital Mumbai, offering broadband services anytime, anywhere.” he said.

TTML’s ultra-high speed wireline broadband offering is called Power Launcher and costs Rs 10,500 per month, with 30 GB free usage.

Anyone interested in this "superfast" 100 Mbps internet?

30 GB free usage? Go to hell! 😕

100 Mbps for 10500 rupees with 30GB bandwidth limit. only in india.

Some? many would have opted . On the other hand , its good that atleast they are rolling out fibre lines , so that in the future (after 7-8 years) we can have fast internet

It is probably through a normal Ethernet cable..like how they provide me with the service right now..Just straight Ethernet cable..it is capable of 100mbps already. Though their International speeds are good they are not always at 2mbps. Anyway with a 30gb cap and the price tag it is useless. Provide unmetered 2mbps first then think about 100mbps. Wonder how the management thinks ? Are they even aware of what the consumer wants ?

well i'd say atleast they had the *alls to launch 100megs in india but damn 30gb. Are they kidding. 100mbps is capable of doing 1tb a day :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

What to do with 100 Mbps? - Make money by providing a web hosting server - Work from home with connection at the speed of office LAN - Watch HD videos at 1080p What to do with 30 GB? - None of the above

^^^ that was good punch line!100mbps is useless. on one hand they are talking abt Fair Use and saying bandwidth gets choked by heavy downloaders and on other hand they are giving 100mbps plans. what are they trying to say? its obvious they just want money in name of fair use.btw for heavy downloaders, even 2mbps unlimited wud be sufficient. afterall how much can ppl keep downloading?

100 Mbps for 10500 rupees with 30GB bandwidth limit. only in india.

I think the FUP is misunderstood...FUP comes to picture when the ratio of users come into picture...If there is 0 users how will it come...But in a country of a billion people fools do live...NOM but seriously dialup here I come...

I wonder what they had for breakfast when they decided to price it the way they did :O:hysterical::rofl:

As always TATA's want to be the first in India in everything.. But when the other companies enter in the same market, they fall back and nobody uses there service.. This will happen to them again..

These are the useless plans that companies offer just for the sake of advertising, Soon you will have ads saying "Tata Indicom, the only ISP that provides 100 mbps", just like BSNL's 2mbps for rs 250 ad.

I think some people may have thought about it, if it was 30TB and not 30GB😗

30TB?! what wud one do with 30TB? 30TB is like 30000GB = abt 40000-50000 movies a month. unless some person keeps downloading and writing to /dev/null 😀
