Does ipad 2 need any 3rd party app to transfer content from pen drive?
Can external hard disk be accessed in both devices, if so what is the max storage?

Well, yeah! It does.
I think it would set up 3G/Edge for you just in case you don't have a WiFi connection it just warns you that the data transfer might cost you money.

Read what he said again, it won't be easier for you to get the 3G model as it's not available through official channels yet.

Yes, you'd need some sort of wifi connection in order to get past the account setup page on a nexus 7.
OT but, threads like these make me put my nexus on charge 😛

3G wifi router devices are available, like huwaei wifi routers.

no prbs, i would be getting the 3G device from Middle east mostly within 29th of this month.

few things to clear the op's confusion :
1. The nexus 7 is a tablet
2. It supports connectivity via wifi
3. in order to get started(for the first time), you do need to have some sort of wifi network that the tab can connect to (the network need not have an active internet connection)
4. yes, you can use a 3G router
5. finally, what admin said
*with root, you can connect a 3G dongle directly to the nexus 7

I was going to offer him my WiFi connection to get his device activated even.
Provided that he visits my place on his own expense.
