i am not sure about it. lawyers like businessmen should have the option to charge as much as they think their time is worth. having a cap would only mean that they would take money through other routes for more cases. it would not really change anything in practicality but only encourage payments in cash. and since they would be able to take in even fewer clients to keep the transactions private, things would become even worse.
there were many lawyers on twitter who posted about how this is a bad idea. it's better to have policies regarding pro-bono cases for poor people. legal aid cell type solution.
