Strange web address

Hi,

I sometimes see a bit wierd kind of web addresses ie urls. Well, I am no IT expert myself, but hope someone would help me understand the same. Here is a web page on IBM website.

What does the initial letters www-03 mean? Generally it is www.

Probably these servers. Exclusive ?

www-03.ibm.com i would assume is one of the distributed servers used by IBM for their own website... technically it is a subdomain. but i am assuming that a random server is called up depending upon the loads on their server farm.

This is IBM internal website.I think google bot search it but it can not be used by outsiders as it is for ibm employees only as it carry all the training data.I am a IBM employee thats why i am telling this as i have authorizes access to this.
 
Many websites behave like this, There is nothing wrong
