Help Mozilla stop Internet Censorship Legislation

Protect the Internet
Help us stop the Internet Blacklist Legislation
On November 16th, Congress holds hearings on the first American Internet censorship system. This bill can pass. If it does, the Internet and free speech will never be the same.
Join us to stop this bill.

Not related to us but would soon replicated here in India if not already.

Google Inc Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt blasted proposed legislation to tighten online copyright regulation on Tuesday, saying the bills would lead to censorship of the Internet.

"The solutions are draconian," Schmidt said during an appearance at the MIT Sloan School of Management. "There's a bill that would require (Internet service providers) to remove URLs from the Web, which is also known as censorship last time I checked."

"Their business models are threatened by theft," Schmidt said. "We don't endorse it. Please don't do it. If you're doing it, stop. I hope that's very clear."

This is pretty awesome. An online service is offering a free way to send an actual letter complaining about this act to elected representatives!

tell congress to stop SOPA

BSNL broadband, Aircel 3G.
I have signed the petition in demand progress website. I really hope it doesn't get passed.
We've been facing a wave of laws that attack our freedom: 10 strikes bill, ACTA, Internet blacklist bill... the government wants the kind of control that they have over us in real life.. while anarchy isn't a good option, big brother attitude isn't either. :Wait:

I agree with you. USA not only exports back office jobs, they also export their problems to us!
Thumbs upto mozilla, they refused to take a down an addon that helped users to access websites that have been censored. :courage:

Google, Facebook are against this act because their services will come under attack if this bill is passed. Think if google or fb has to pay huge fines just because some user posted a copyright infringing link or a search result led to a site that may be hosting infringing content. Or if some youtube user uploads a song/video and google has to pay the MPAA & RIAA.Mozilla is against this movement because they genuinely believe in freedom of speech & privacy online. Hats off to them for their unconditional support against such draconian and stupid acts.

Let's try this one on for size: the New York Times has officially come out against SOPA and PIPA. No, not a columnist, but an official editorial, meaning that it's the official stance of the paper.

NY Times & LA Times Both Come Out Against SOPA & PIPA — www.techdirt.com — Readability

If that's not enough for you, how about an official editorial from the LA Times, again representing the official position of the editorial staff of the paper. This one may be even more surprising, given that the LA Times is the MPAA's hometown paper. The LA Times editorial is quite similar to the NY Times one, noting that neither proposal appears likely to help, and actually neither proposal even appears to be getting towards the "right answer."

Better way of dealing with that is - Do what Moserbaer did. Sell ur products at throw away prices. U will generate so much volume, that the reduction in profit margin will b compensated by the rise in volume. Not only that, even the piracy losses will reduce to some extent.
