Smartphone Mobile can get heated with 3G Data ON?

I am talking about my Samsung Omnia W.
I have noticed several times that if I keep data ON (mobile connected to internet) in 3G network for 4-5 hours, my mobile gets heated.
Has anybody noticed similar behavior in any other mobile/smartphone?

Due to this I never keep data in ON state for longer duration.
 
all smartphones I've used, till date, heat up when on 3G. Nothing abnormal.

I didn't notice any such heating only because of 3g usage on my mobiles. HTC One X i have now heats up when i play games etc but not when only using 3g
 
Smartphone mobile or the Micromax data card both are heating when I used 3G data on.

Yes most data cards do heat up in my experience as well but not smartphones. I've personally used Motorola Milestone, BB Storm 2, HTC Desire, Sony Xperia X10 & now the HTC One X
 

Not in case of 3G but Nokia N8 become a heater if you use it as wifi hotspot. Also sometimes I feel S3 is getting heated when it's in weak coverage area
