These prices are not bad but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any plan that really suits me. While I wouldn't mind an unlimited at 128 I don't want to pay for three months: which seems to be the shortest option for pre-paid. I am hoping that Airtel will provide service to my area in Bombay soon so I don't want to be stuck with T Indicom for three months.

Hey, do the prices include taxes? If I take their 128Kbps UL connection then do they charge anything extra apart from Rs.900???edit: Guys I think TATA / VSNL are getting spooked out by Airtel thats why they are reducing prices. Besides they will never have the reach that Airtel's gonna have. As Airtel is going to be a Fixed line provider! :D

Based on the comparison with the pre-paid prices my guess is no; that you would have to pay taxes of around 10% above the 900. In addition to the monthly charge you have to pay an installation fee and a refundable security deposit as mentioned on the web site.

Incidentally on second thoughts I think I could live with a 64 unlimited connection until Airtel comes to the rescue. Does anyone have a 64 connection with Tata. What kind of speeds do you get?

Hey, do they give connections through cable operators? I hope not.

That's good. But it is a bit confusing.

I have used Dishnet DSL in past (VSNL acquired it a nd renamed it to tata indicom bband). And the service was pretty decent, dishnet used maintian its own dsl cables.

I heard the Tata indocom operated DSL through cable operators (VSNL manages connectivity / bandwidth and cable operator manages last mile). But since I did not use their services for quite some time, so I am not sure.

They metion something like this on their website as well.

How can I buy a Tata Indicom Broadband Renewal pack?
You can buy the Tata Indicom Broadband renewal pack from any of the following sources

    * Your Local Cable Operator (Tata Indicom Channel Partner)
    * By Placing an order at the Customer Service no. in your city
    * By ordering online[/b]

Do you ahve to deal with your cable operator?

As far as i know there r no cable operator involved. They have setup there base station in every 2 km radius and a user gets a direct line from tht base station. So 256 kbps here mean full 256 not shared.

My connection is a LAN and I think it was set up by the cable operator. The installation was a massive headache and not something I would recommend to anyone. But you might get DSL in your area. Just call them and find out.

oh, seems it is area specific thing. Good 4 those who get a direct connection.
