For example, the 4.3-inch (960 x 540), 9.79mm thin R Style now houses an LTE chip, 16GB of onboard storage and a TouchWiz flavor of Ice Cream Sandwich. As if that wasn't enough, the slab also packs a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU and a 5-megapixel camera to take care of those filtered Instagram shots -- all while being powered by a 2000 mAh battery.

South Korea Bound? No good for us.

Priced at $590, I don't think that it will be in between 15*-25k range in India unless they shed more hardware perks.

well they cannot price it over S2 here in india. so 22-25 is the only price range if this model ever comes to india. samsung has created a shitty scene in india. priced Galaxy s3 so high and now they have nothing in 32-38 price range. and then they have note at around 32k. and s2 at around 27. and below that they have absolutely nothing worth buying right now. their budget smartphones are speced very badly. i am amazed how they can afford to not have decent low end and mid range devices in a country like ours where they can easily overtake Nokia to become the number one player.

4.3" S AMOLED pentile, LTE, Dual Core 1.5 ghz, 16 GB internal, NFC & 2000 mAh. All these specs if it comes under Rs. 25k then it would be steal. But again it seems unreal to me. They have to shed some of these specs to maintain their margins. Anyways for mid range of 20-25k, how about S Plus & S Advanced? They are not so bad.

Yeah. 😀 The message is clear from samsung. Currently to get ICS, one need to shell out at least Rs. 27k. I don't know what will they do with Jelly Beans & Key Lime Pie android versions.

all my hopes are stuck with rumors that google would partner with five manufacturers to launch multiple nexus branded devices later this year. this has to be done. to ensure that consumers have more than one model to pick from that comes with google supported android edition free of any bloat. i am sticking with no smartphone policy for now. not one phone in the market that excites me enough today!

For the low end, Samsung have the Y series: Y, Y pro, Y duos, Y pro duos. For mid end, they have Ace, Ace plus, Ace 2, Ace duos, Ace 2 duos.Their major chunk of market share comes from sub 5K phones, like the Champ, the new Pocket and the non-smart phone families like Metro, Guru etc.Galaxy R was an amazing spec sheet and they missed a trick by withdrawing it in India. It would have been the phone people went to if they could not afford the S2. But they withdrew it as it ate into S2 sales. Unfortunately the move backfired and they lost to HTC, Sony and even Motorola's Atrix2.They left the 15-25K segment in the hands of Galaxy S and S Plus, which were flawed phones. Indians need 'presence of all features', not necessarily high spec. S Plus had no flash and so its 5MP cam was a no-no for us. No ICS assurance was another downside. Hence the phone was doomed. Sony sold more phones in that range than anybody else with Neo V and Pro and Ray. Ray has a photo/vid light instead of flash, but we Indians found it good enough to buy. All these phones had 'all' features present, never mind the quality. Plus an ICS assurance. They all did well.. nay, still doing well.

Samsung said on getsatisfaction.com that Galaxy R was launched with limited stock. So whatever quantity was available with retailers, that was it.

But on various websites such as xda dev forum, flipkart etc users had reported so many issues like restart prob, data connection lost, hangs a lot, battery and this particular model had so many motherboard issues that they had to discontinue it. That is another speculation behind it's sudden discontinuation.
