Require help regarding max download attainable rate

Hi,

I recently moved to Gurgaon and after struggling for over a month, finally got Airtel installed yesterday. The engineer said here max download speed is 8mbps but currently you will get 2mbps. For increasing the speed, you need to call 121 and they will update your profile.

So, I called 121 and they said max download speed available in your area is 2mbps. The engineer and the sales guy had told me that people get 8mbps here. Feel like banging my head.

Also in my modem the following rates are being shown

Max Download attainable rate :17347kbps
Max Upload attainable rate : 1024kbps.

Do the above metrics suggest that I can get more speed than 2mbps?

Your line can support 8 Mbps.
However, I think that your exchange/DSLAM might not have enough bandwidth available to give you that speed. Many users, limited bandwidth.
They might need to upgrade their equipment/capacity for you to get 8 Mbps
