This is a very late news.

Reliance MARKET is opened in Ahmedabad for the past 2 years. Concept is to serve to wholesalers (but as in india) - who cares. People having local shops with valid and legal CST number can obtain for Reliance Market card and can purchase from there. (each time, 1000 Rs spend is must). It is HUGE. It is a kind of BIG warehouse. Ventured by big brother, Mukesh Ambani.

They sell EVERYTHING CHEAP.

Eg: if potatoes in local shops cost Rs 25/Kg then in R-Market it costs just Rs 8-10/Kg. Extremely cheap. All other vegetables, household items, electronic items, hosiery, cutlery, kitchen items, garments, food products, milk products, soaps, shampoos, groceries - EVERYTHING is cheap.

Reliance One card (which we use in reliance fresh, rel mart, rel footprints, rel trends etc) does not work there. To get an entry, we need to have RELIANCE MARKET card (which they only give if we have a shop in local market with a valid CST number along with our business card).

They also have some set of rules (read on site) such as 1000 Rs purchase everytime, no entry for kids below 14 and only 2 persons can enter on a single card.

its from ADAG and not from mukesh ambani. it also seems just for food products. i created this post about RELIANCE MARKET which sells EVERYTHING (not just food/agri products). Extremely different from "rel mandi"

its desi version of what Wal-Mart / Tesco wants to start in India (after FDI in retail).

Yes you are right, mandi is indeed a desi name.
"Mandi" is actually a place where wholesalers sells fruits and vegetables to local retailers. Then we purchase our vegetables from these retailers .
I actually meant that whether reliance is trying to create a "mandi " here , as functions of reliance market seems similar to that of mandi. mandi also doesnt allow retail users (like us) to purchase food from them(u have to buy in bulk). So, they function pretty the same. 😀
