Right I have vague memory that when I had temporarily put a jio phone sim in a smartphone, it did not allow me to make a call. I might be wrong though.

Yes that vague memory is true. Jio phone plans doesn't work in smartphone. Tells you to recharge with smart phone plan.

Not yet, i'm just looking alternate option for yearly plan. Currently four airtel numbers in my family are using yearly 1498 plan and in that one connection do not use data at all, only calls and messages(very rare). The phone itself one of the old samsung(guru?) keypad phone. Still have 130~ days validity in that number, so was thinking parallelly to find any cheaper option for next renewal.

Quoting old post, Any feedback on cost effective yearly plan for voice only option? Currently one connection is using airtel yearly plan which had 24gb data, but data is never used. Phone itself old keypad phone.

Now looking for cheaper yearly plan or one of the jiophone plan. Any suggestions?

Seems like 899 plan on jiophone is the next best option. Don't think any plan comes without data on any of the telcom operators.

Ported out to Jio from airtel and opted for two years jiophone plan.
