In a new development, Reliance Jio has reportedly acquired permission to allot mobile numbers that start with the the numeral 6. The company has been given permission by the Department of Telecom (
DoT) to issue 6-series numbers, and has been allotted MSC (mobile switching code) codes in the 6-series for the same. With this, Reliance Jio will be the first telecom provider in India to offer mobile numbers that begin with 6.
