Reliance Broadnet upto 2 Mbps, 1GB limit
I have been using Reliance Broadband in Pune for about a month and a half now. My plan is 600Kbps, 500MB upload+download limit @ Rs 400 pm.
I use it mostly on weekends and holidays (free BB in office :) ) My general experience has been quite good. Fingers crossed, but I have never found the connection to be down yet and I get speeds around 500 Kbps. Download speeds around 63-64 KBPS. I have not measured upload speeds, but I uploading photos to picassa has been quite good.

Network latency is quite high.

Issues - Customer Care is rubbish ! They don't have any clue about their service and would be able to help you only if a "similar" problem of yours is present in their databank !

I had tremendous problems in getting the status of my application - it took roughly 3 weeks for them to install the connection. The person I was talking to could not provide me any information as to whats happening, never called back on his own etc.
My emails to Reliance customer care went unanswered.

I recently wrote to them asking what Reliance was going to do counter the 2Mbps plans from BSNL. All they sent me was info on the existing plans !!!!!!!

Pl. let me know your experiences !

Update -
After hearing about new plans from Reliance (I guess to match BSNL), I got my connection upgraded to 2Mbps with 1GB limit. The cost is Rs300 pm. Though I was promised that the upgrade would happen in 7 working days, it took more like 15 working days and customer care had no clue what was happening.

cheers.

Reliance Broadnet upto 2 Mbps, 1GB limit
Update -

Its been 4 months now, since I have been using the Reliance Broadnet connection. The service has been good so far, touch wood. No downtime yet.
Speeds are good. Download speed ~180-200KBPS.

Their login screen sucks. You have to either give the URL of their portal or give any URL and you get redirected to the login page. No problems if you are directly connected via cable. Issue is when you use/want to use a wifi router. Even if you enter the username/password in the router, it cannot connect since the router does not understand the "login screen". I wish Reliance would change this. Seems very unlikely though, since they will have to educate all their existing customers which is next to impossible for them.

Their help desk is rubbish, their billing system is completely messed up. Every month I have to call them to send me the bill (which takes 3 days to come by email :)) and 4 days by courier.

There is no facility to view your bill on their website.
There is a create user facility, but that leads to nowhere!

They are upgrading everybody to the 2Mbps plan (i am already on that plan) and they still are "working" out how much should be the upload speed !
When I called customer care, they told me they dont know. They also dont know, when they will know !!!

I think Reliance is confused. They are not too sure if they want to be in the consumer broadband business and hence are not aggressively pushing the service. Therefore probably theres not too much focus and I guess accountability on how the whole broadband business is working.

Of course this is no excuse for the current state of affairs. There are existing users after all and new ones being added albeit at a slow pace!!!!

I have no idea why there is no concern in the organisation about their image/business losing face/credibility due to all this.

cheers.

After being in Pune since 2 yrs, i have got a chance to used 2 ISPs. Sify & TATA. Sify had good speeds however service sucks big time. TATA was giving ok ok speeds and service was below average. After reading your comments on Reliance Broadband, I am unsure what to do as I was thinking of going for Reliance. Any say on this?? Thanks!Vineet

I wll suggest using either Airtel or BSNL for broadband.Other providers do not have landline network and uptime is horrible.

I would have loved to user Airtel as even at my HomeTown(delhi) i am using the same and everything is excellent. However in Bavdhan they don't have a feasibility. I found out about BSNL and they said they have stopped internet service in my area and won't be starting it till another 6 months. Really caught in "Dharam Sankat...sorry ISP Sankat" :p

Despite my rant, you should go ahead with Reliance. Because finally the connection is really good. The speeds are also good and uniform and there has been absolutely no downtime yet. Even during power cut, if you have an inverter at home or wherever you are using the connection, the connection does not to go off. There is normally no need to contact customer care, so doesn't matter even if it is not good. But is reliance available in your area ? They are not giving connections everywhere.cheers

Yeah, reliance is providing connection in my area. They have been behind my back for sometime now. They are charging 500/- for installation. I told them "I have TATA Indicom and I am getting 225kbps speeds. You want me to change and plus pay installation charges". Salesman was pretty dumb, he did not have any rebuttle, neither did he try to convince me. I will take a day or two to think about this. In case if you have any other snippets let me know. By the way, Thanks for replying!! :)

Dont worry about the Rs500 installation - it is adjusted in the first months bill, so essentially installation is free ! Of course the modem will always belong to Reliance, but so be it.Finally what all of us want is a good, reliable service (all relative of course :)). I was very skeptical when I was taking the service, since I don't believe that reliance is very transparent in its terms and conditions, but the broadband has been good.If you are self sufficient, most of the times you can solve your own problems and very little help is required from customer care. And this forum is always there !I hope I dont sound like a Reliance mktg man :)anyway best of luck in your search for broadband...cheers,- Abhijeet

hey u can use a wi-fi router with reliance, what you need to do is give the Reliance DNS server address to the router and it takes you to the login page.
