I have a question for people who might be using Samsung Pay to pay using their phones on retail counters...

Do you still need MST or you can make payments by NFC itself? I ask because I plan to buy S10 Lite in the coming days and it does not have MST support. It does have NFC. I was wondering if I would be able to use it to make credit card payments at retail stores using the phone itself.

If the swiping machine supports NFC then yes you can make payment using NFC. When I use Samsung Pay on on swiping machines, if NFC is available it uses NFC and if NFC is not available, it pays through MST.

Most of the Pinelabs terminals these days have built in NFC.

yeah. nfc is almost at all locations where i pay these days so this would be fine. pinelabs machine is at a lot of locations. Paytm machines are also nfc capable. only stores with old machines are lacking nfc now. all bank issued machines also have nfc. nfc enabled card works fine. have always wanted to buy a samsung to pay using phone on these machines so now is the chance. :D

if you are comfortable... can you confirm a few more things about samsung devices!

i did try on demo units at local samsung store and i am pretty sure that both of these features are supported...

  • if you add a shortcut to forum in chrome... does it create a shortcut on home screen. and whether that shortcut loads the forum in full screen mode.
  • how good is the share menu? does it prioritize apps that are used frequently/recently? or does it stick some apps at the front locations?
  • samsung does have direct share. i saw sms listed on demo units at samsung store. just wanted to know if it works with other apps like telegram (whatsapp support would also confirm the same)

also of course... what do you like and dislike about samsung phones. one of the tech bloggers already confirmed that s10 lite has vowifi support on airtel so that solves the biggest issue i am facing these days.

also of course, i assume nfc should work through thinner cases at least?

I used add to home screen option on chrome. It opened in full screen.

Share menu has just too many options. I haven't used share option much. But it looks like it organises the apps based on recent usage. It also shows apps based on what you are sharing. For example, if you are sharing an image, it shows all the applicable apps where you can share it too.

Direct share works on whatsapp. I don't use telegram so can't confirm it.

I have been using Samsung phones since s4 days. Samsung has so many useful features which makes it easy to use the phone. I have also seen so many features of Samsung phones getting released to pixel phones. When it comes to disliking, it is probably go to do with bloatware like My Galaxy, Samsung Members and other apps. I really don't use them and they are just consuming some memory in my phone.

I have a decent thick sized case on my phone and NFC works just fine

Yes, you can place any app on home page.

I didn't understand "to directly access my apps in the play store app." Do you mean apps from playstore? Yes, you can place any downloaded apps and sideloaded apps to the home page by either long pressing and dragging or by long pressing and using the sub option(which comes up when you long press) add to home page

Missed this thread last time. Yes, when you long press Play Store, you get an option called My Apps. Clicking on this directly takes you to My Apps section of Play Store.

I hadn't seen it before. Just tried it after seeing this post :)
