i have used postpaid connections since last 10 years and was pretty ok with the concept of postpaid billing, but recently i started using prepaid sim and i have come to know one think for sure which that prepaid customers are getting much more options than postpaid connection. .1) call conference is free where in airtel postpaid rent is 99rs/month.2) isd calls are easy to make as no security is required where in postpaid security deposit is necessary.3) earlier like 4-5 years back postpaid connections required activation of national roaming though rent free but still it required activation where as in prepaid its pre-activated .4) prepaid has better sms packs and tariffs than postpaid plans.the thing which has got my mind spinning is that many operators do not activate call conference and isd calling together they say one has to be Deactivated, where in prepaid both things work together. when i asked the store executive he said that DoT has layed these rules

Must say it took you quite long to realise this. I always had postpaid, but only recently migrated to prepaid inspite of knowing all through the years that prepaid is far cheaper. One big advantage that postpaid has over prepaid is the roaming coverage. You might not have experienced this, but postpaid coverage is guaranteed to be better in many places - India or abroad. Within India, many private operators do not have proper tie ups in places like Manali or Ooty and there you are left stranded for signals if you are on prepaid. On postpaid, I have got different signals. This, while having two SIMs - one pre and the other post - from the SAME network.

Absolutely true. I used prepaid for about 7 years and had taken per second billing. It was the best because of lousy Airtel signal. I always used my calls, very rarely used Airtel, only short calls. However, I use my number for a lot of official calls now. Hence, forced to go postpaid, absolutely worthless. As pointed out in earlier posts, I had problem with Airtel regarding conferencing and ISD together. For global roaming, I have to deposit 5,000/- at an Airtel center, not over Internet!

Roaming and ISD are not preactivated in postpaid to avoid financial loss by any operator. If Postpaid connection come with pre activated ISD, Telcos would have to shut down the business. There had been numerous cases , someone even published in news article where Postpiad connections were activated , Security Deposit paid for ISD activation and several calls were made to terrorist countries like Somalia. When investigated, those documents were fake and no was there to pay thousands of bill. After that telcos decided to have re-verification done for all ISD activation request. Regarding offers, Prepaid Offers are always better than postpaid, but one had to lots of permutation-combination each month to juggle with the offers.

I've been an Airtel customer for almost 8 years. They should know me well, whether to give global roaming facility or not. They should allow all services up to the credit limit. If they can't understand a customer in 8 years, they MUST shut shop.I was a prepaid customer and turned postpaid about 8 months ago. I suppose that Airtel treats me as a new customer!

It boils down to:Use postpaid if you have a) High call volumeb) Need for International Roamingc) Dont want to deal with the hassle of random VAS activationsd) Need a phone for critical use -- Dont want to risk running out of the balancePrepaid ifa) Low call volumeb) No international roamingc) High SMS volumed) GPRS usee) Can deal with hassles of VAS and recharge
