If the contacts are REALLY important then take it to Nokia Care.

Don't take it to the local repair guys, they will screw it even more as it's an ancient phone.

Yeah ! Contact's are too important. His Dad is a Director in some government department. I too suggested him to go to some nokia store. Maybe they would workout something.

i think the first thing nokia guys do is to format your phone. :p

Haha . .that's what they are best at.

at last u can try as what admin suggested. take to a good local shop they will try by taking out the memory chip and placing it in another phone. As the phone is not submerged or physically damaged i assume the chips will be intact. You can try at a nokia care but i am sure they will not be able to retrieve anything, there job will be limited to starting the phone again.

@Jayant it is possible to extract data from a dead phone. Since it's a symbian phone the chances are higherBest option for you is go to gaffar market. There are some good repair shops there which can help you, but it will be expensive.

Why dont you try repairing the phone itself? No one here have seem to give that option yet.

You can ask them to just try for a "chutput" repair so that it can contacts can be imported.

This was the only thread i found relating to issue on Nokia phones.......my N78 is slowly dying out. Most of the SMSes i get, come as twins. While the SMSes that i send, bluntly refuse to leave the Outbox!!In short, i am not able to use the main "Service" that i literally abused till now!

I would suggest you to stick to Nokia only as I find it more reliable than any other brand. right from my childhood till today, never gt in situation when I have to get my handset repaired at service centre. Even In CDMA, I was using Nokia 6275 which worked perfectly for 3 yrs whereas other CDMA handsets have a life of only 1 yr.
