I know that TV tuner cards have been discussed a few times on thsi forum, but I need to do the opposite. I want to get a video feed from my PC to the TV mainly so that I can use the DVD drive to view movies on the Tv (for the obvious reason that it is much bigger than the monitor). And of course watching DivX movies on the TV would be nice too. (btw I don't have a standalone DVD player, hence this inquiry).Anyone know of a good solution? I know that till a few years back atleast you could do this, but the resulting quality would be poor. Has it improved now?

unfortunately the computer is an old piece of cr*p and doesn't have a graphics card... the video card only has a VGA out. I guess TV tuner would be an option, but I don't really want to use my computer as a TV.Is there any USB solution?

You have two options:

1. Use USB video out (e.g. http://www.usbvideoadapter.com/)
2. But a PCI Video card with video out. Most probably you will get only second hand cards. Normally that should cost around 200 - 500.

I was talking about PCI based grafix cards. These were used in 1990s, but can still be used with today's PCs.

the USB video adapter you linked to is to use your comp to capture video from another source. I need to do the opposite. So if I used a PCI card to output the video feed from my comp to my TV, let's say when I am playing a DVD on my computer, would the eventual video on my tv be comparable to what you would get from a standalone DVD player?

^^^ And can you give a link to the adapter (e.g. on newegg) and tell us about the quality of the final image you get on the TV.

I have a cord which is S-Video to RCA, it came with a graphics card i bought in India. I regularly connect my Laptop to TV to watch movies on TV as the other method of burning them onto VCD/DVD is time consuming. Quality on TV is as good as on Laptop. If u live in Delhi then u can enquire abt S-Video to RCA cord in Nehru Place, iam sure u'll get it there

To connect TV to laptop (or any graphics card with a s-video out) ideally, you want to get a male S-Video to female RCA adapter or cable, lots of them sell female to female requiring an extra gender changer cable ($$$) for nothing. Did not find this on newegg, when i searched over a yr ago. I resorted to getting it from the US as the one i bought in BLR only worked in b&W and the vendors were unable to get the right part. That too on SP rd in BLR ..so called market for pcs. All these things are made in either china or taiwan, ie not that far away, yet suppliers here are useless at getting stuff like this.

I got mine from Parts Express
