Hi,I've had this problem for the past several weeks. My DSLNU connection just stops working.I can log on to the router, but can't connect to the Net.The router shows that the ADSL is connected. But the ppoe is disconnected. The log file shows "PAP Authentication failed"The connection usually goes down during my post midnight download session. I usually run emule and DC++ but this problem has even happened when no programs were running. My current solution is to call the exchange. They reset something at the server end and it starts working within a few minutes. However, neither they nor I can understand why this keeps happening - about twice a week.I would really appreciate any suggestions or solutions.

In which area do you live? One of my friends faced this problem and it turned out to be exchange specific.

If these routers have obtained public ip, then we can assume that they are online (and have established PPP session).

Exactly what netfreak said, if they have got an IP assigned then they are definitely online...

max...i guess st0le is rite...those IP's r IP's of true online rtrs. But st0le remember Angry IP scanner gives u only those IP's online for which ICMP reply is enabled, if u disable ICMP in the D-Link rtr or u use a Personal f/w in d Bridged mode, then u can never know d actual count. Anyways...st0le a gud investigation on MTNL.View attachment 360

I am experiencing a similar problem. My TriBand connection is through the Khar (W), Mumbai Tel. Exchg. In my case the problem manifests in a different manner. I have the NU plan and in order to keep my login sessions synchronized to the NU plan, I have an "expect" script that logs in to the modem @ 00:00 and 08:00 hours and reboots the modem. I am doing this because I got burnt badly with humungous "additional usage" charge because the MTNL portal software did the usage accounting based on login sessions and did not discount the NU usage.

The script was working fine up until a few weeks ago. Now, after a reboot (thru the expect script) the unit is unable to login to the MTNL network. The log file shows repeated PPPoE login failure.

However, if I **power cycle** the modem, most times it is able to login (PPPoE) successfully in to the MTNL network.

Occasionally, even power cycle does not work. I keep getting repeated PPPoE login failure. In such case, I have had to open a trouble ticket and typically within 12-18 hours the unit is able to login successfully. Not sure if MTNL really did something or the problem auto corrected itself :(

I am wondering if I have a flaky modem and how to prove it. In both scenarios, the web interface "Status>ADSL" does display the "Line State" as connected.

Talking to MTNL is of no help. According to them, if all the LEDs are lit then my modem is good.

If the problem is with the MTNL network, then I don't understand why it logs in with a power cycle but not with a soft reboot.

If anyone has a clue to solve the problem it would be appreciated highly.

st0le, all it means is that they are connected i.e. authenticated. It still doesn't mean they are ONLINE. After all its a 24x7 always on connection.

they are online dood....i have no fancy explanation i just said so...

ok i lied...
its not 24x7 if u switch the router off
when u switch off the router...it does "disconnect"...therefore its not online for that point....if i can ping them...it means i can download stuff from it...i can open its webnterface and do stuff...(crude very crude) .....one public IP is connecting to another...which concludes my proof....THEY ARE ONLINE!!!!
