Those are pretty good compared to what i get on Airtel. Right now it's 310ms for yahoo.com and 350-360ms for google.com. Yea i remember ping times on MTNL used to be really good too, specially when they started out. Then they started using Reliance's gateway and they kind of increased.

yep..but strangely..mtnl using VSNL is good for UK servers and this direct VSNL aint..strange!!! Reliance latency is horrible😛 i hated it when i got reliance thru my triband!!!

Hmm, Ethernet cables coming in...not good.

Lightning magnet ie fried NIC..or do u plan to pull the cable each time you hear a rumble in the distance...i can give you a simple formlua to guestimate how far it is and whether it's coming your way 😉

The other shitty thing with ethernet cable is it has a max distance of 200 yards (CAT5) ...i think CAT6 can go up to a km...b4 it hits a hub, they like to use the word switch but its actually a hub, if you're lucky its a switch....well with previous ISP, each time power goes down there goes your connection. Admitedly this might be less of a problem since you seem to be living in a first world city like Mumbai where power probs are non-existant. Tata's largely to take the credit for that, so i bet the Mombay ppl got a soft spot for them.

i still think ppoE kicks metro-ethernet in terms of uptimes & reliability.

At my place i am getting line using cat6 cable and connecting through (or can connect through) ppoe, ppoa, rfc1483 bridge. Don't know y they put metro-ethernet at ur place.

hey I still need to 'dial in' with my username and password..maybe its not really Metro Ethernet..but the tech dude had checked the box Metro Ethernet in the connection type......

I'm a bit confused here, do you need a landline or not ? apparently not...It appears they have a concentrator nearby and run ethenet cables from it to the customers premises. So long as all this cabling is undergorund, i would think there is minimal problems. It's the overhead ie exposed cables that cause max probs. Why the need for a dial-in client then, is that some type of authentication software ?Browsing their plans, it looks quite good, prices seem to be on par with Airtel with the option to go as far as 512kbs !!!..and no need for a phoneline, not that i use mine anyway.

Its pppoe only..so need to make a pppoe request or watever😛 hehe im not impressed much 🙁 sad to say.d/l speeds without a manage is like 10kBps!! sad! speed tests give me 100kbps..bad..not impressed so far at all..wud complain on monday if this continues!

I use ppoe too, the authentication is done in the modem. You are saying you already get an ethernet cable so the ppoe part is done in software ?10KB/s is bit low..for 256kbs...there might be a config issue.Since its PPOE, you might have to change your MTU size, b4 i did this...i was not able to post on web forums at all..downloads however worked fine.

You are saying you already get an ethernet cable so the ppoe part is done in software ?Yes..exactly..I'll do a tweak test@Dslreports n get back on the MTU thingy😛 wat mtu u set? which program u used?

An MTU tweak won't increase your speed from 10KB/s to 30KB/s ..there is a prob some where...i'd call their tech support and clarify.

umm yeah i guess. network congestion during the day or osmething i gues..at nites its fine..but i just leave teh d/l on during days neways so watever comes comes..hehe..torrenting nowdays..if I get newsgroups no worries about speed then..

Yeah bout but a 50% drop in speed during the day is not what i could excuse as congestion. I'd demand an explanation or are you only on a 12hr plan ?
