I remember reading in this forum that the DataOne accounting is based on USERNAME / MODEM ID and not Tel. No.In that case can I do this:I have a DataOne a/c at my office. Can I take the modem home when I go and use the same a/c at my home through my home phone?

hi perumal, well if this thing was possible ...everyone wuld be roaming around with modems in their hand and a laptop...and if u have a connection at home...that u can access office accout from home..i mean use ur office id and password to use it at home..although you wont be able to connect if internet is already running at office..Sandyofcourse in this way you can access ur account from two places..

I was misled by the statement somewhere I read that accounting takes place only by USERNAME-MODEM ID & NOT BY TEL. NO.Long back, before I got a modem for my home, I used to take a normal dial-up modem home from my one-man office and used it to connect and access my VSNL dial-up a/c from my home. Accounting was by username and not by tel. no.So I thought we can do like that for DataOne. May be, they may give this as a facility in future... who knows.

You can connect to bsnl with same modem and same username and password twice. I have been using this for a while now. What I do is, I use a software called vmware..which lets me run two OS at a single time. I configure both the OS to use PPPOE conn. with same username and password.Well whats the use??I can download 30kbps each! =60kbps

Hi webdevil,VMWare is a software that lets u run another operating system while one is already running using the resources already available.I am surprised how are you able to download 30 kbps each... i mean the amount of data recieved by you computer should be same irrelevant of the sources that use the intenet connection...if u use same internet connection from both the operating systems they will share the amount of data recieved among them....so wat i think is there wuld be no direct benefit of using 2 connections together...I m going to try it right now..please correct me if i m wrong...also if someone else is using same technique and is benefited then do post....Sandy

correct me if i'm wrong...isn't using two OS is just like accessing the net from two different PCs...in that case, if we consider two systems connected to one router, r we expecting that we'll get double the speed???

Hi Guys,As i told that u cannot get double the speed even if you run two OS from same computer....well, tried VMWare and as expected i did not get anything better..The total speed recieved by the ethernet was divided into two os...will soon post the screenshots also for ur confirmation...Sandy

OK i read some of your concerns, the thing that I forgot to mention was you dont use a lan connection like connecting two different pcs, you setup a pppoe connection on both, use the same username and password
Here is a link to the screen shot, I couldnt upload it here cause it says the file size is large
