A Bangalore-based software professional has been sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment for illegally using the user-ID and password of the internet connection of Press Information Bureau, Chennai, and ‘exploiting’ BSNL broadband subscribers, causing wrongful loss of Rs 38,248.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate R Killivalavan also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on the accused, N G Arunkumar. He was convicted under section 420 IPC (cheating) and section 66 of the IT Act (Hacking). The CBI investigated the case following a complaint from PIB.
Investigations revealed that Arunkumar logged on to the BSNL broadband internet connection and made alteration in the computer database pertaining to broadband internet user accounts of 52 subscribers, the release said.:O
