Newbie: Ordinary Dish & STB instead of DD direct+?

I'm absolute newbie on dish & DTH. Do we really need to buy from DD for FTA channels? Can't we buy ordinary dish & STB to view FTA channels?Thanks for any insights.

no u can go with a normal after market FTA receiver. dd'd direct plus dth don't have any specific encryption hence u wnt hav 2 worry.

by the way why are u interested in that....DD's DTH channels are not so watchable.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I'm not sure, but I thought of reducing recurring cost in viewing FTA channels. As far as I understand, Videocone and others offer FTA but with recurring fee. Am I wrong?
