JioPhone: Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular indicate JioPhone could be violating net neutrality, Telecom News, ET Telecom

Telcos also argued that revenue made by apps or content providers on their network should be shared with them, and that if a more than 5% of the bandwidth was being used, then the app or content provider should also pay for the infrastructure.

The views – without naming JioPhone – came during the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (Trai) discussions around net neutrality and could spark another round of hostilities between the new entrant and incumbent operators.

“It’s locking customer, because he would come to know that he cannot delete or add an application. This should be a free choice for the customer who can use the device wherever he wants to, otherwise it is equivalent to blocking, which is a more serious issue than throttling,” said Ravi Gandhi, head of regulatory affairs at Bharti Airtel.

Idea Cellular’s chief corporate affairs officer Rajat Mukherjee added, “The device and the ability or inability to load or unload or offload certain kind of application, is clearly discriminatory. It is what was referred at one point of time as a walled garden.”

Both carriers said that a mobile phone must access any browser, operating system or applications that are available on the Internet, else it becomes a breach or violation of network neutrality. Their views came in response to the regulator’s pointed question on some network providers offering bundled mobile phones.

who is stopping them to launch their own version of phone.
Airtel Tv app sucks in comparison to Jio Tv app or jo movies app.

the problem is not jio launching their own phone or their own apps. but bundling of jio apps on jiophone when 'technically' no other apps can be installed on it.

they should answer why competing networks cannot be used on their own self branded dongles.

why i cannot use Tata Sky dth card on airtel dth stb.

well net neutrality is for networks not hardware.
If airtel app is not working on jio network then only they can complain.

jiocinema does not work in non-jio networks on phones afaik. they have never bothered to complain about this.

Apparently it's jiotv that needs jio network. I don't remember my account details to check again :-|
