One of my relatives (uncle, around 55 yrs) is looking for a new phone and wants me to buy one for him but I dont have much idea about phones these days as I am a standard iPhone guy and he is looking for a budget phone.
His minimum requirements are:
1. Huge battery life.
2. Call recoding (inbuilt or through app).
3. Good phone book and sms memory.
4. Good camera (moving/still).
5. Optimal memory (internal or through sd).
Now currently he is using Moto razr for some years and is hesitant on using touchscreen interface, so a keypad based phone is preferred but if no suitable option is there, he can go for touchscreen.
So please suggest good phones accordingly.

Budget?

Budget can be expanded a bit but 10k is approx., expandable by a few Ks. If a good phone in less than 10k comes, it will be good.

Good camera, at this price is a question mark. Not really the best option, but from a strictly hardware quality pov, I felt best to recommend this - BlackBerry Curve 9220 (not really a smartphone , no touch display, battery life is decent) Else there is the Lumia 520, with a better camera, but then, is a smartphone with a not so good battery life.

Camera dont need to be top end, a workable type is acceptable at this price range
Looked at BB 9220 model. The issue is that keys are too small. Dont need a full keypad, numbers keypad which can also type characters (like our old phones, dont know wht this type of keypad is called) is what I am after. Any more suggestions?

Com'n guys, suggest something.
May I suggest Lava Iris 501, runs Jelly Bean Now,
5 inch screen would be good visible thing for him.
1Ghz Dual Core, 512MB RAM, good touch screen
Built in Call Recorder, and a good 5MP Camera based on same chip which MMX Canvas 2 claims to be of 8MP.
Battery last full day on WIFI as its 2300 mAh, Gps locks within seconds,
No complains of hanging or problems with stability as I use it day to day.
I am using it since jan-13 end, and since then not less than 6 friends have bought it.
Latest one was purchased @ Rs.7600 however I paid 9K for the same.
I don't think you would get a better phone in this price which is as stable as this one.

You can also check "Samsung Galaxy fame".. Which is available for 10k.It is a good budget phone I'm using it from last few days and no problem faced so far..
I like this phone but the issue is of battery. Will it last 5-6 hrs of talk daily for 2-3 days on single recharge?
Also not going that cheap 🙂 - Nokia 101
