See how people are mislead! When I first inquired with my dealer he said \"Core 2\" systems are available from 9750INR!
[/b]
Yes they are, here's what i see (scroll to bottom) at a dealer here in blr.

Rs.15700(!) for a core2duo 2.4Ghz (presumably a E6600)

looking at my preferred dealer in the US, i see similar

$309 for a core2duo 2.4Ghz or E6600

Google says thats approx Rs.13,900 or little over $20 cheaper

Seems there is no Core2Duo 2.8 Ghz

It seems the discussion is getting diverted. Sushubh needs suggestions on a new system.
This is what I am procurring ...

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
http://www.pricewatch.com/cpu/core_2_duo_e6300_1.86ghz.htm
[/URL]
USD: 180.00

Motherboard: Intel G965
http://www.pricewatch.com/motherboards/intel_g965.htm
USD: 115.12
http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/dg965ss/index.htm

Memory: PC2-5400 DDR2 667 MM-2D67512-1 with Heatsink,(USD 4.00) x 2 units
USD: 50.00 x 2
High-Speed Memory Module - 240pin SDRAM - NonECC REG. - Unbuffered

Hard Disk Internal Storage: Seagate 250GB Hard Drive ST3250620AS
USD: 84.25
http://www.pricewatch.com/hard_drives/seri..._250gb_16mb.htm
http://www.seagate.com/cda/products/discsa...081,760,00.html

The above totals USD 479 = INR 22,000.
I am having the above carried in from California. It fits in the duty free list of IRS 25,000.

I intend to keep my 19inch Dell LCD-TFT monitor, Sony CD writer, and Creative Webcamera.
I hope you all agree this is the best bet at present.

If someone can offer me a used LGA 775 processor that will go with the above M-b, like a P-IV, I will wait for a couple of months and go for a Intel E6600 (hopefully prices will be lower then). 🙂

The problem is in a couple of months,Q6600 (mainstream quadcore) and a lot of varations of core 2 duo will be out with higher fsb(1333),2mb cache and in a lot combinations,we'll be too tempted to get that then..

leomax, it never ends! 😛 So its always a trade off 😉 I cant wait too long as my requirements are gonna be very urgent as soon as i am done with my exams... AFAIK E6400 is an overkill for the casual desktop user and even a gamer 😉
