Yeah, old days = BSNL = Bhai Sahab Nahi Lagega

in my local mtnl exchange you literally need a torch to see anything its so dark, just bunch of old guys about to retire playing cards. Last time I visited was 3 years ago to surrender my connection probably many would have retired now. To be fair their staff is old and with govt job security no incentive to learn new things.

They refused to install new wiring, many people were ready to pay extra for wire too, there was no other good wired broadband provider only some WISP and docsis type cable. Now with multiple LCO with much cheaper plans some even offering FTTH no one needs MTNL. Also that adphonso mess hope they have stopped it.

Now also I think they want to provide FTTH service mainly in apartments and some other posh areas for politicians etc.
What is the point of having a loss making PSU which doesn't provide service to all parts of city, isn't that the point of MTNL to service areas where private operators won't provide service?

MTNL has a surprisingly good backend.
From what I've heard it has great latency which is comparable to airtel.
from what I have heard from lineman they did upgraded their backend to Fiber 3-5 years ago not all exchanges only the main points. But they refused to upgrade old copper lines for last mile connectivity which is just dumb typical govt logic. Old copper lines couldn't support stable 2 mbps so what is the use of fiber? then they wonder why they are making so much loss 🙄

You should check out if there is MTNL in your neighbourhood. There're in quite a few places now, atleast in the kind of places where you won't have lco's only. I didn't face any problem service wise with them (ie the maintainance person, though not much educated, used to come when called)

BTW I had gone there to apply for MTNL FTTH connection today and their FTTH is down since 11 am. So much for all the hope. But as days pass, Jio FTTH is getting on my nerves. Every fckin day I discover that a new site has been blocked randomly. Plus whenever I play Forza Horizon 4, I get "Poor network conditions may affect online gameplay" messages every other day while in game.

It's been a long time I been to this forum. Glad to see some familiar names.. 🙂
So I want to apply for Ftth and I tried multiple times to get a line in my area. I have exchange nearby around 1km. Yet they refuse to give connection as they want more customers in my area.
This is really tedious as customers have varied choices.

Are there any other means of getting mtnl ftth. I am still using their triband 8mbps and am very satisfied with their service. I stay in Gorai, Borivali.
If given a chance to compete, it can leave other players miles behind.

Which sites are being blocked? From our understanding, it should be sites showing child pornography or a site going against the set rules.
Care to elaborate?
