Dear All, As everybody knows that MTNL has launched 2MBPS plan, everybody is leaping up to get 2 MBPS speed. Here are some points you have to check before taking conection 1. its 2 MBPS, so please ask for CONTENTION RATIO.. u'll get 2 MBPS only if the contention ratio is 1:1, if its not, then divide 2048 kb with the ratio Example... Effective Speed in 2mbps if contention ratio iis 1:2 2 MBPS = 2048 Kb (1 MB = 1024 kb) if contention ratio is 1:2 then speed = 2048*1 then divide it by 2 = 1024 it means that u'll get the speed between 1024 kbps (1 MB to 2 MB per second)2. Ask that is it unlimited data transfer or is there any limit?? u'll use a lot of data being on high bandwidth.As far as i have studied on these details, my knowledge about 2 MBPS plan is : 1. Contention ratio will be 1:8 which means u'll get minimum speed as 256 Kbps (calculate on the basis of above formula) & it MAY go upto 2 MBPS which, i think, will never happen because of load on servers, so u'll get speeds not more than 500-600 KBPS for which, u'll pay the Monthly rental according to the 2 MBPS plan.2. The free data transfer u'll get is only 200 MB.. which is very less.... Suppose, if you are the only person logged on the whole network (Which is nearly impossible), 200 MB free data transfer will be spent in just 15 Minutes & u'll have to pay for rest of data transfer usage for rest 29 days 23 hours & 45 minutes... u can calculate it yourself how much it would be.So, Be proactive, ask for all details, then only take any service from any service provider otherwise u'll lose a lot of money & will get nothing.
As far as rest of your post goes, the speeds have been upgraded to 2mbps(connectivity) mathematically download speeds should be 256 KB/s(tranfer rate). And from what i have gathered from users whom i know personally they are getting speeds between 150-220 KB/s.Yes i know that the limits on these plans are ridiculous 200mb-400mb. But atleast they have taken the initiative of introducing true boradband speeds so to speak.It will take some time for things to be regularised and for unlimited plans to come out. But they will come.Meanwhile Airtel are just sitting on their asses and providing their users with lesser speeds than what is promised according to the plans (mine is 256kbps, and i get between 90-140kbps). So this cleary sucks
