Mozilla has always kept on eye on the mobile market, striving and eager to make its mark in that space. One such project initiated by Mozilla is called Boot to Gecko (B2G), with an objective to design an operating system for mobile device. B2G is betting it all on HTML 5, essentially developing an operating system that is an HTML 5 browser. This will allow HTML 5 applications to run natively on the system, improving performance by reducing CPU overhead, by cutting down on intermediaries.

Mozilla Gains Global Support for a Firefox Mobile OS

The Firefox OS for mobile devices is built on Mozilla’s “Boot to Gecko project” which unlocks many of the current limitations of web development on mobile, allowing HTML5 applications to access the underlying capabilities of a phone, previously only available to native applications. Telefonica’s Digital unit joined forces with Mozilla earlier this year to take this work and showcase a new phone architecture where every phone feature (calling, messaging, games, etc.) is an HTML5 application.

Due to the optimization of the platform for entry-level smartphones and the removal of unnecessary middleware layers, mobile operators will have the ability to offer richer experiences at a range of price points including at the low end of the smartphone price range, helping to drive adoption across developing markets.

lol. Apple would not bother going after mozilla. why? because they do not have any money. they would not bother unless firefox os becomes a major player in the market which it is unlikely to become. as simple as that.

Keon

The handset will feature a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen and 3-megapixel camera on the outside, with a 1GHz Snapdragon S1 CPU, half a gig of RAM, 4GB of microSD-expandable storage and WiFi, 2G and 3G antennae inside. Sure, that processor isn't a beast, but an 800MHz S1 does just fine in the Lumia 610. A 1580mAh battery will keep the carrier-unlocked phone running, and Mozilla is promising OTA updates to Firefox OS to keep devs, well, up to date.

Peak

The developer handset is called the Keon, according to creator Geekphone's website, and while not mentioned in the Mozilla Hacks blog post, it appears to have a more powerful cousin called the Peak. It's got a 4.3-inch qHD screen, 8-megapixel back-facing camera (with flash) and 2-megapixel shooter round the front. A 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 CPU and larger 1800mAh battery are within, but storage, RAM and connectivity specs are the same as the smaller Keon.

I would bet on Ubuntu OS. It is more capable. Mozilla Firefox OS is trying to do a Chrome OS and we all know what kind of reputation it has developed in the market today.
