Thanks. Where do I put them? In the LAN card/connection tcp/ip properties (just like for hathway) or in the modem setup somewhere using 192.168.1.1.And the rest seems all right?I did have a problem with some sites (noticed firewall was blocking ICMP) and I had to allow ICMP 3 and 4. Things seem better after that.I also noticed the firewall blocking udp from 192.168.1.255 and 192.168.1.2. Any reason why and should I allow udp traffic? I do not think so.What about password changing? For security where all do I need to change the passwords? There does not seem much point in changing the default modem password.

Lan card should be fine[/quote]

Well, for now I think I am quite happy that I moved to MTNL Triband. I used Hathway for a couple of days to use up whatever possible usage, and it was quite slow.

Actually (maybe since I had complained about the speed and the linesman had told me he was going to check the wiring and he actually did something) the speed / responsiveness on the default settings is quite good today and far far ahead of hathway.

Putting a 100rs adsl splitter on my parallel line has solved the disturbance / disconnection issues as well.

http://register.mtnl.net.in is also working ok. So it is 😀

Now where am I supposed to change my password? Is it at all necessary? Things are just fine and I do not now have hathway as a backup so if this change creates problems... If so, I am guessing at http://register.mtnl.net.in and once that is accepted then in the modem setup config as well for the connection setup. Anywhere else?

Hi Check out http://socrates0.blogspot.com/2006/01/conf...router-for.html which will give u details abt changing the password also download theh user guide for the modem from the MTNL site.
BTW I think u did the right thing by buying the modem. I did the same & the MTNL brass were very polite at pathare house dadar where they sit My exchange is 2432 in Mumbai which is ur exchange, in case of any trouble go directly to the div eng, I found them to be useful as long u don't show any irritation

Yes, http://register.mtnl.net.in/ is playing very hard to get. Due to this, can anybody recommend (preferably freeware) network / bandwidth monitoring software, which will not slow down the connection too much? This will avoid the dreaded mtnl site to check what has been one's usage.

hmmm......wot r u saying...?????? it hardly makes any sense

ok if my inference is correct u wnt usage monitor....but i wud say these monitors r not very reliable as the data recorded by them r not very accurate and u wud often notice high discrepancies between the usages shown by mtnl site and ur bandwidth monitor
but still if u want one i wud recommend "online eye" its not freeware and expires after 30 days. Rest is upto u ....whether u buy the license or u know wot 😉 😉 😉

DU meter!![/b]

Tha same happens to me 1504 tech told me this is b'coz of 'line problem' & noted my complaint. Rang up 1504 as I could not connect for 17 minutes. They admitted that they had a problem and are working on the 'up gradation'. Incidentally the http://register.mtnl.net.in/ site will be down today 'as work is going on', such hard working guys' 🙂

I still need some help with the following:What about password changing? For security where all do I need to change the passwords? There does not seem much point in changing the default modem password.

when u urself dont want to help yourself why shud others help u?did u check mtnl website? all info is there.did u search this forum? its possibly there.so please help yourself. good luck.

Oh well, thanks for your reply.

MTNL website leads back to ug for modem.

I have browsed this forum and found some people had problems when they changed their passwords. That is why I wanted to make sure where all to change it and why.

I also made reference to http://register.mtnl.net.in site being so slow/not working that I may have a problem changing it.

As I see it:
Password must be changed at http://register.mtnl.net.in, but user should be left as tel. no.
Then it must be changed in connection set-up of modem.
Then modem login password also may be changed.

But what is need? Can anybody take connection?

The login password of modem/router is advised to be changed for security of ur account bec if its left to the default it is prone for easy hack... (Dont ask for procedure to hack now...).Even if the site is giving problems, u can change ur account password whenever its up and running. 🙂Username will always be ur telephone number and u cannot change it because thats the way MTNL identifies u and bills u accordingly...
